Office Updates

From Ms. Amodeo

We hope that all of our middle school families enjoyed a restful and rejuvenating break.

We are now in the fourth and final marking period. Finish Strong!

Save the Date/Volunteers Needed: We will hold our annual Service Day on Friday, June 2nd (rain date: June 16th). This is a great opportunity for our middle schoolers to help out the school and wider community! We are looking for parent volunteers to help us with planning and with the events on June 2nd. If you are interested, please contact Gail Brisson at gbrisson@tburg.k12.ny.us.

School Nutrition

Though school meals are no longer subsidized for every student, free and reduced-priced meals are available to those who qualify. The application can be found HERE.

To add funds to your child’s school lunch account, you can use our online system at MySchoolBucks or you can send a check directly to the TCSD Food Service Department. Students may always pay cash if they choose to as well.

Charge Chromebooks, bring pencils & water bottles, check planners. Wash, rinse, repeat. Thank you.

Science: Food chains, food webs, producers, consumers, decomposers, herbivores, carnivores, omnivores, Oh my! We are deep into living systems! There is a lot of vocabulary that we’ve been practicing with IXL lessons - ask your kiddo to show you what these practice sets look like. They can also tell you about all the stuff we’re growing in the classroom, including our hydroponic/aeroponic gardens.

ELA: Before break, students shifted their focus to learn about an influential woman of their choice. Students enjoyed reading about Maya Angelou, Frida Kahlo, Katherine Johnson, Serena Williams, Billie Jean King, Lady Gaga, Julia Child, Ellen Degeneres, Emma Watson, Patricia Bath, Beyonce, Grace Lin, Mae Jemison, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Malala Yousafsai, Iva Toguri D’Aquino, Selena, and Cleopatra.

Math: Students finished their unit on multiplying and dividing fractions and took their end of unit assessment. The students also began their introduction into volume. We will continue this new unit this week.

Mrs. Posegate’s General Music: It has been a wonderful quarter making music with the 2nd period class! Here are some videos of them playing a 4 part arrangement of Twinkle. They learned it so fast!

Twinkle 1 Twinkle 2 Twinkle 3

Band 5: The Parent Band lessons have begun! The information and permission slip are available in the Band 5 Google Classroom. When the permission slip is turned in I hand them the guide for the 1st lesson. I hope everyone has fun with this. It is optional.

Social Studies: Students had a very busy week before break: they planned a compare contrast essay between two monotheistic religions. They also had Ms. Valletta in to do a social emotional lesson. We also had the math student teacher, Ms. Taylor, visit to share about Passover and Judaism.

Math: We are working hard in math class on one step equations and order of operations.

We then discussed Andrew Jackson’s presidency and the Indian Removal Act, considering the impact on the Cherokee Nation over time. We touched on Texas independence and watched ‘America: The Story of US: Westward’ to wrap up what we’ve learned so far in Unit 5. Students will have a long-term sub beginning Monday, 4/17.

Music: We are finishing up our BandLab final project! Within the next week or so, students will have their completed original soundtracks to share.
