Office Updates

From Mrs. Lomax

The first marking period ends this Thursday, 11/9. Talk to your student about making up any missing work by Friday.

On Friday, we celebrate Veterans Day. Thank you, Veterans, for your bravery, service, and sacrifice.

From Mr. Megivern

October is over, and with it, National Bullying Prevention Month. But the work goes on! I’ve registered Russell I. Doig Middle School with PACER’s Bullying Prevention Center online, as a bona fide Champion Against Bullying. See the national list, and our place on it, right HERE!

Lost & Found

Our Lost And Found is overflowing - please remind your child to check for anything they are missing. November 9th we will be donating all the items in Lost And Found to a local charity.

School Nutrition

We are pleased to announce that all school meals are now free for Trumansburg CSD students. Our district has been granted the mid-year community eligibility provision (CEP), a federal and state grant subsidy that covers the expense of student meals. We are more than ecstatic to provide free nutritious meals to our student population, alleviating the financial burden on our families. Additional items beyond the daily meal will still be available for separate purchase should students so desire. Many thanks to our school lunch personnel who work tirelessly to provide our students with nutritious and appetizing meals. Their commitment is essential to the education and overall health of our student body. Thank you for the positive impact you make every day. We look forward to seeing all students in the lunch line!

ELA: Hello and Happy November from ELA! Students are embarking on the second half of our novel, Front Desk. With this movement forward we have started to work in Motel Groups where students partner read and collaborate to accomplish various skills/tasks in class. Motel groups named their motels this past week and have come up with a theme for it. This work will come into play for our final project in a couple of weeks on Front Desk. Also students were gifted a challenge this past week of their very own sparkly pencil. This pencil should be used regularly and the challenge is to keep it for the rest of the unit with Front Desk! Ask your child about the significance of our sparkly pencils from the novel.

Math: Your students received their end of module 1 tests this past Monday. Hopefully they were able to share some of their successes with you. Students were also introduced to a new math fluency program called Reflex. Students are able to work on this any time out of school to help with their basic math facts. Please feel free to contact me if you'd like any login information or would like to know more. We have also begun our second module: multi-digit whole number and decimal fraction operations. Students have learned how to write and interpret two step expressions. Over the coming weeks we will work our way up to multiplying three and four digit numbers by two or three digit numbers.

Science: Your little humans are becoming experts on our solar system. Each student has a research topic - ask them about it! We have one more topic in our study of space - stars and constellations - and then we will wrap it up and switch to chemistry. Thank you for supporting your kids with their work outside of school!

Band: Please encourage your student to practice every day. A good routine is to play all the assigned songs (they are short!!) two times. Should take about 10 minutes. Group pictures for the yearbook are Monday morning. Please bring your instrument to have it in the photo.

Troubadour

Dear Writers, Photographers, and Artists~

Are you interested in contributing to the Trumansburg Troubadour? The Trumansburg Troubadour is a school community newsletter written by students and supported by the Trumansburg Education Foundation. It is a great opportunity to have your work published and shared with the community. We are accepting submissions from students in grades 3-12 this fall.

In December, we will publish our regular Troubadour newsletter dedicated to school and community news and encourage students to choose one of the suggested topics below or a topic of their own related to school news/programs/events. Submissions should be half-page to full page in length with some flexibility (word count: 400-800 words).

We are also accepting creative stories, poetry, artwork, and photography for a Creative Edition of the Troubadour that will be published separately later this winter. Creative stories will need to be 800 words or less. Students are welcome to submit to both editions of the Troubadour if they would like.

The Troubadour will be compiled and edited virtually, though we may have opportunities to meet in person or individually. Submissions are typically submitted and edited using Google Docs. All interested contributors (grades 3-12), please contact trumansburgtroubadour@gmail.com with your topic ideas and questions by Friday, October 13, 2023. First drafts will be due by Friday, November 3, 2023, and all final submissions will be due by Friday, December 8, 2023.

We look forward to hearing from you!
