Service Day: Volunteers & Donations Needed
We will hold our annual Service Day on Friday, June 2nd (rain date: June 16th). This is a great opportunity for our middle schoolers to help out the school and wider community! We are looking for parent volunteers to help us on June 2nd. If you are interested, please contact Gail Brisson at gbrisson@tburg.k12.ny.us.
One of our activities will be to organize clothing donations so that we can have a stock of clothes for students who need them. If you would like to donate, please send in items with your student or bring them to the main office & let them know to give your donation to Ms. Brisson.
Donation Guidelines:
School Nutrition
Though school meals are no longer subsidized for every student, free and reduced-priced meals are available to those who qualify. The application can be found HERE.
To add funds to your child’s school lunch account, you can use our online system at MySchoolBucks or you can send a check directly to the TCSD Food Service Department. Students may always pay cash if they choose to as well.

Science: On Monday & Wednesday 5th graders are visiting the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and Sapsucker Woods This follows last week’s lessons on habitat, biodiversity, and citizen science. Each child also received a field guide to birds of North America, provided by Kids Discover the Trail. Ask to check it out!
ELA: This week students took their reading iReady spring diagnostic. It was wonderful to see so many students taking their time to show their growth over this school year! Also in class we continued to read our historical fiction novels and work through several literature circle jobs to experience all aspects of Literature Circle Group Work!!!! Students should still be bringing this book home each night (along with their log) and back to school each day. Please take the time to ask your 5th grader about what is currently going on in their historical fiction book daily (these stories are filled with amazing real-life adventures)!
Social Studies: This week we examined the geography of the Americas. We spent time looking at North America, South America, and Central America.

Science: Only one of our 12 chicken eggs hatched, but little Batman is getting a lot of attention! Our wheat and popcorn seeds have germinated in petri dishes, and this week we will continue watching as the seeds grow stems and roots. We will continue our study of genetics, and we will have a chance to do our first Punnett squares.
ELA 7: We finished reading the novel All the Broken Pieces this past week. We are writing an essay about how the author develops the theme in the novel. We are thinking and writing about topics such as family, change, feeling like an outsider, stereotypes, and other big ideas. The essay is due Wednesday. And, 7th graders rocked iReady reading!! Way to go!
Rattenborg’s Small Class ELA 7: We are continuing our study of All the Broken Pieces and writing our second essay of the year. The class gained more than 200 participation points since December and has earned a trip to Not My Dad’s on May 24th. We will go during 8th period and each student will be treated to a free junior cone.
Music: We have learned so much on guitar! Students now can play an impressive list of chords. We are having fun playing songs we all know that use these chords. We have discovered that many songs use the same set of chords and we can play them all! We will continue our work on these chords (with a playing quiz coming soon), and will add a few more before learning how to play electric bass.
7/8 Band: Congratulations to all students who participated in the NYSSMA Solo & Ensemble Festival this past weekend! Everyone worked so hard and sounded great! We will be shifting our focus to concert music leading up to our Spring Concert on 6/1.
