Office Updates

From Mrs. Lomax

Last week was action-packed at the middle school with many students having fun on spirit days, a Pi Day celebration on 3/14, and a well-attended dance on Thursday night. Thank you to Ms. Dawson, and the Student Council students and advisors for making the week such a success.

After being treated to a preview of the high school production of Honk last week, middle schoolers are looking forward to Willy Wonka opening on Friday night. We hope to see you all in the ES Auditorium this weekend!

Are you looking for a stylish hoodie, fleece vest or performance 1/4 zip? Do you want to support our 8th graders' trip to DC in June? Check out the MS clothing store HERE. A portion of all proceeds help fund our annual trip. Thank you in advance for your support!

From Mr. Megivern

Just a friendly reminder about our backpack policy during lunch and recess.

The handbook states, “During lunch period, students are expected to:

  • Secure materials in their locker or next period classroom.”

We’ve been reinforcing this lately, asking 7th and 8th graders to put their backpacks in their seventh period classroom before they go to lunch and recess, or to store them in their lockers. This way the hallways and cafeteria are uncluttered and we can avoid the safety hazard.

5th Grade

5th Grade Daily Planner (Please bookmark for your use). Please check your students’ take home folders and planners with them daily. Calling ALL PENCILS!!! Please remind students to bring spare pencils from home with them to school (either daily) or to store in their lockers! We are giving them the same messages here at school. THANK YOU!!!

ELA: This week students resumed their work with the text Promises to Keep: How Jackie Robinson Changed America. Students will need to use their text outside of ELA several times a week to use it for homework assignments. They will need to bring the text back and forth daily!

6th Grade

Band: Mrs. Posegate’s Lesson Schedule Preparation for NYSSMA solo fest is well under way. Students have about ½ of their solo assigned to them and are working to learn and memorize 2 scales. Please encourage frequent practice sessions - lots can get done in 10 - 20 minutes. Thanks for your support.

7th Grade

7th Grade Digital Planner (Please bookmark this link.)

Please remind students to bring pencils, their Chromebook charger, and a water bottle to school.

Science: We spent the week reviewing for the unit assessment on Wednesday (3/20). Students have a Natural Selection packet with objectives and a review sheet. In addition there are vocabulary cards on Google Classroom.

ELA 7: Our journey with Cole continues as we witness Cole not only survive life-threatening injuries but also decide to live more in his integrity. The anticipation builds as we wonder… What will happen when he returns to the remote island? Will he learn how to manage his anger? Will he see Spirit Bear again? Chapter 16 is due Monday along with questions. Please remind your 7th grader to read and answer questions each night.

Math 7 & Pre-Algebra: Thanks to all the families who helped support our Pi Day!! We had a great day. View our photo slideshow HERE. Next week we’ll circle back to the start of the year and revisit scale drawings, followed by work with the constant of proportionality. In Pre-Algebra we’ll look at functions while also revisiting these topics. ALL students should bring earbuds or headphones to class every day next week and beyond and have a charged Chromebook. Thanks for helping support your student to come prepared for a successful class.

Music: We finished up our Music and the Civil Rights Movement slides and activities last week. This week, students will be choosing a Civil Rights song to research and create a poster in Canva for. Students will choose to either present the songs and posters or participate in a gallery walk.

7/8 Band: Students have LOTS to practice! All NYSSMA students have chosen a solo, so it’s time to get to work! Students will also be taking a band music playing assessment with the goal of finishing that assessment before Spring Break. HERE are the requirements on each instrument for the assessment.

Kotler’s ELA 8: his week, while students continued to work on their Ellis Island virtual tour and read chapters 8-13 on their own, we welcomed guest Roald Hoffmann (03/12). On Wednesday and Thursday, we will took a look at ID profiles of Jewish emigrants of WWII (in conjunction w/ Social Studies).

Social Studies: We kicked off WWII this week by learning about various dictators who rose to power, the actions taken that started the war, and America’s involvement. Students have until the end of the week to finish their Great Depression essay if they did not finish in class last week.

Talent Show

IT'S BACK! On Saturday, April 20 at 7 p.m. in the HS auditorium we will hold a district- and community-wide event that provides the chance for Trumansburg to show off its talent.

TYPES OF ACTS: We are looking for a variety of group and solo acts: comedians, dancers, magicians, musicians, and more (but no lip-syncing, please).

WHO MAY AUDITION: Students (from elementary school through college) and adults of all ages. Your act should be well-rehearsed and as polished as possible for the audition. (Note: Student a cappella acts need pre-approval by a Tburg music teacher.) If you can show us your skills in a well-prepared act that's 5 minutes or less, we'd like to see it!

AUDITION DATE/TIMES: Auditions will be held Saturday, March 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the HS band room. You must apply for an audition time slot using the Google form (link and QR code below). A team of judges will hear your audition and, depending on the number of interested performers, we may need to make selections. We will announce the final list of participants during the week of March 31. Keep in mind that the act you show us in the audition is the act you will perform if you are selected.

If you're interested but know that you cannot audition on March 23, email both Hope Lewis and Alicia Bronzetti as soon as possible to arrange another time:

hlewis@tburg.k12.ny.us

abronzetti@tburg.k12.ny.us

SHOW DATE: If you are selected, you must be available to attend a dress rehearsal on April 20 between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. and, of course, to be at the show that evening starting at 7 p.m. If you cannot take part in the show on April 20, please do not sign up for an audition slot!
