Please help your 5th grader remember to charge their Chromebook and to bring a water bottle.

ELA: Students wrapped up 2022 by finalizing their 12 Days Of Literary Devices booklets. We learned a ton and had a great time singing our way into each lesson. We were also busy finishing our Motel Essays so that groups could bring their vision alive in poster form. What a great way to end our unit on Front Desk.

Social Studies: We have begun to study the Aztec civilization. We also took some time to look at how different winter holidays are celebrated around the world.

Please remind students to bring a reusable water bottle to fill up at school. Students need pencils! Please send your student in with a few pencils!

Science: We have wrapped up the first part of our Geology unit. Students completed models showing how a rock that is part of a cliff could one day become sand at the bottom of a basin. Our trout continue to grow and develop. Hope everyone had a great break & Santa brought you lots and lots of pencils! 😀

Social Studies: Students wrapped up Unit 2: Colonization. We had a review and a test as we approached break! The day before break we wound down with some fun games and rest as we got ready for the American Revolution upon return.

Math: What a week we finished just before break! Wonderful. Both classes have finished a Unit Test. Pre-Algebra is actually half way through seventh grade material. After a quick break, we can move on towards finishing that and doing eighth grade. Woohoo! Our general math students are also on their way too - almost halfway through class content! Woohoo! Thank you parents, guardians and families of our kids for supporting them this year. It’s just incredible. We rely on you so much and we could not have done it without you. Happy Holidays, Happy New Year and I hope you enjoyed your break!

ELA 7: In December, we finished our unit about S.E. Hinton’s The Outsiders. We are welcoming the new year with a focus on the importance of independent reading. We will start each class by reading, and students will be expected to read outside of class. Please encourage your 7th grader to read.

World Languages: Ms. Cederstrom: Ms. Cederstrom’s students have been working in small groups to write a short story about the adventures of some very interesting characters (including aliens, astronauts, unicorns, and taxi drivers to name a few). Each member of the group was then asked to pick a different character from their story to develop (by adding personality traits and other personal details). Groups will put the finishing touches on their stories and share them with their peers after break.

Music: We wrapped up our Music in Our Lives Unit before break. Students completed their final projects creating soundtracks for themselves and presenting their songs in Canva. In the new year, we will be learning to compose music in a program called BandLab.

7/8 Band: Before break, we had so much fun spreading joy around the building by playing Holiday Carols for all to hear. Please remember to check the lesson schedule and be ready to get back to playing in the new year!

8th Grade

Rattenborg’s Small Class ELA: I hope you had an excellent break! We have been doing a lot of fun reading and writing as we explore the genre of science fiction.

ELA 8: Having just finished reading Lois Lowry’s The Giver, students will choose a final project to begin. As final projects get underway, students will finish watching the movie adaptation, to compare & contrast. We’ll begin reading Homer’s The Odyssey in January.

Social Studies: Was the U.S. a hero or a villain? That’s the questions students need to defend on our Imperialism assessment. Hope you've had a wonderful break!
