Office Updates

School Nutrition

We are pleased to announce that all school meals are now free for Trumansburg CSD students. Our district has been granted the mid-year community eligibility provision (CEP), a federal and state grant subsidy that covers the expense of student meals. We are more than ecstatic to provide free nutritious meals to our student population, alleviating the financial burden on our families. Additional items beyond the daily meal will still be available for separate purchase should students so desire. Many thanks to our school lunch personnel who work tirelessly to provide our students with nutritious and appetizing meals. Their commitment is essential to the education and overall health of our student body. Thank you for the positive impact you make every day. We look forward to seeing all students in the lunch line!

5th Grade

5th Grade Daily Planner (Please bookmark for your use). Please check your students’ take home folders and planners with them daily.

ELA: This week students began to read, research & learn about New Year's Celebrations around the world.

Math: Students learned up to add fractions with unlike denominators. Throughout the week we learned two methods: using fraction models and numerically. Students took their exit ticket on Friday on this skill which will be handed back on Monday. Next week we will begin subtracting fractions with unlike denominators.

Social Studies: This week we continued our research on the Aztec. We focused on their Achievements, Politics, and Economics. We also look at the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Band: Mrs. Posegate’s Lesson Schedule We are getting excited for our Twinkle Celebration Concert on February 6th at 7 pm in the middle school gym. Please mark your calendar. All fifth grade band students are working hard to learn to read real musical notation in our Making Music Matter Book. I encourage them to “say it, play it” so that they are reading the note names aloud before they attempt to play the song.

THRIVE: After-school tutoring is in progress. Fill out this form to sign-up.

6th Grade

6th grade planner (please bookmark this link)

***Students are in need of pencils-please make sure your student has pencils for school. Check their backpacks!!

Social Studies: Students spent the week exploring Ancient Egypt-we looked at the Nile resource and discovered how it helped the people. We also explored the gods and goddesses in Ancient Egypt. On Friday we completed a simulation to see how we would live in Ancient Egypt.

Math: Last week we wrapped up our unit on Equations and expressions.

Science: We spent the week focused on Mt. Everest and other mountains around the world. Students formulated questions to answer about what causes mountains to move, grow or shrink. Students created initial models to show what they think is happening. On Thursday we looked at adaptations our trout have. Students made their own trout camouflage.

ELA: We have been diving into New Kid by Jerry Craft. We have been finding microaggressions in the book. We also learned about code switching and saw how Jordan code switches on his way to school. Students “tasted” some new books to find a new free read book. These books are all first in a series books. They will pick their book next week.

Band: Mrs. Posegate’s Lesson Schedule We have had fun using Sight Reading Factory in rehearsals and have been diving into our new concert music. Students have been invited to work towards earning a “Performer’s Certificate” by completing a set of tasks by the end of the year. Ask them about it.

Chorus: Chorus lessons: MP2 Lesson Schedule / MP2 Lesson Groups

THRIVE: After-school tutoring is in progress. Fill out this form to sign-up.

7th Grade

7th Grade Digital Planner (Please bookmark this link.)

Please remind students to bring pencils, their Chromebook charger, and a water bottle to school.

Science: Students danced and exercised to show how activity affects respiration. We finished the unit of plants by reviewing photosynthesis and respiration and taking a test on Friday. Next week we will start heredity.

Math 7 & Pre-Algebra: This week in Pre-Algebra we worked through the Pythagorean Theorem, adding some great word problems to our mix. I was so proud of the kids when many groups chose to tackle the most challenging scenario (and made some excellent drawings to help them with their solving). In Math 7 and Pre-Algebra we learned to solve and graph inequalities, and set-up real world inequality problems. One real world scenario using an inequality involved deciding which treadmill would be a better deal. This problem came from a conversation at our house! Lastly, we started our percent unit at the end of the week. We finally started to use our grade 7 activities board we’ve been adding to all year. The kids counted how many students participated in each activity and we worked to determine the percent of the class doing each thing. This is the foundation for our learning to come in the unit - tax, tip, commission, percent change, percent error and more. This week we completed iReady and next week we have to tackle the IXL diagnostic as part of our time together. View a few photos from this week.

Social Studies: Hi everyone! This week we finished up our unit on the American Revolution and started investigating the Articles of Confederation and the development of the U.S. Constitution. Next week we will be having a class debate, arguing as either the Federalists or the Antifederalists and will investigate the importance of the Bill of Rights

Chorus: MP2 Lesson Schedule / MP2 Lesson Groups

Music: Students should have finished completing the first draft of the ‘Soundtrack of My Life’ project this week. We will move on to entering that information into Canva to complete the unit.

Thursday, students will grade samples from last year’s NYS exam, in order to understand the prompts and requirements behind grading the exams (therefore improving their written responses). Friday, students will have time to focus on their marking period 2 independent reading book, book projects, and some time to catch up on missing or incomplete work. We will also fill in Madlibs to review parts of speech!

Social Studies: We wrapped up the Progressive Era with an assessment called Emjoi Connections. Students wrote about how 2 or more words (key events, people, issues, problems, reforms . . .) were connected and picked an emoji to represent their chosen terms.
