Please remind students to bring spare pencils from home with them to school (either daily) or to store in their lockers! We are giving them the same messages here at school. THANK YOU!!!

ELA: This week students began to learn about Jackie Robinson’s baseball days. We practiced tackling short response questions, more inference, vocabulary development and good questioning techniques! Keep checking in with students about how they are doing keeping up with daily homework assignments related to the reading in our class text (Promises to Keep).

Math: This week students learned how to divide whole numbers and unit fractions. Their exit tickets will be handed back to them on the Tuesday we return from break. We will then practice solving word problems involving division and multiplication of fractions.

Science: Science class has been jumping topics a bit. In addition to our work in biology, we’ll be reviewing some 3rd and 4th grade ideas in preparation for the brand new NYS 5th grade science assessment. It’s pretty cool for your kiddos to see how much science they’ve learned in the past few years.

Band: Mrs. Posegate’s Lesson Schedule Students with lessons on Monday will not have a lesson this week. Please encourage them to continue practicing.

Science: In science this week students spent time analyzing and interpreting graphs. Groups were assigned a specific case study from a community in the US to identify any long term patterns in temperature, precipitation, drought and snow pack information. Groups then presented their case study to the rest of the class making a claim about what was happening in that community and supporting that with evidence. These presentations will help to further our understanding of how natural resources are distributed and being used in various places and what role if any humans are having. We also had a trout day, where we investigated the various signs of pollution in and around streams that could affect the health of our trout. They are getting noticeably larger.

ELA: Students in ELA planned a paired passage essay comparing and contrasting Steve Jobs and Barack Obama’s speeches to students. Obama Speech and Steve Job's commencement. If students have not finished their free read book they should do so over break. We will begin Flush by Carl Hiaasen after break. Students will be reading some of this in class and some on their own.

Health: This week students continued their learning on effective communication and healthy relationships. Lessons after break will focus on how to be safe online and while communicating with others. Further, students will learn how to avoid exploitation, how to keep a body healthy during puberty and the basics of the human reproductive systems.

Band: Mrs. Posegate’s Lesson Schedule Students have been completing performance assessments for specific measures in our band music. This should be completed by the end of this week. (4/12)
